Embodied Dance: Intro to Contact
Embodied Dance: Intro to Contact Improv
Friday April 11th
7:30 - 9:30 pm
at Yoga Source Palo Alto
Synergy: the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
Contact Improvisation is a movement art where two or more people move together while maintaining points of contact between bodies. There is no set lead or follow, rather each person practices attuning to their own body, their partner’s body, and the point of contact they share to sign a unique movement signature in time and space. We come together with focus, presence, and shared intention to make space for synergy.
Contrary to common belief, you do not need any dance, yoga, martial art, or any movement experience to begin practicing contact improv. This is simply a space for human bodies to come together, practice authenticity, connect and explore.
Our session will flow through an opening circle, guided solo movement, guided basic partner connection exercises, space to explore, and space to jam- solo or in partners. We will have an opening and closing circle for this intimate and open-hearted container. Come solo or bring your favorite person along for the journey!
Benefits of the practice:
Human connection
Build non-verbal communication skills
Build body awareness
Build relating skills
Build your movement vocabulary
Inner child play and magic
Healing of physical touch in community
Give your inner artist another outlet to create!
Note that this is not a couples event, rather a fun opportunity to connect and relate with community through movement. In this session, everybody will move with everybody. No partner necessary to participate.
No yoga mat.
Bring socks & bare feet.
Wear sleeves for sliding on the floor.
Bring your water bottle.
$33 regular exchange | $22 for Yoga Source monthly membership holders
Registration will soon be available HERE
